Antigua - gathering momentum every year

Painting the Antigua scene

Beautiful white beaches, warm tropical breezes, turquoise blue waters, and yachts aplenty is a picture of Antigua that captures the imagination of everyone who has enjoyed the experience of visiting this truly beautiful Caribbean island. Steeped in naval history, its greatest beauty lies on its coastline and not surprisingly millions of visitors have fueled its healthy tourism industry. The people are friendly and laidback, a relaxed culture that is foremost in every aspect of personal and business life. It's easy to get there from either the US mainland or Europe with its wide variety of airlift, and it is an excellent base for sailors to explore the waters of the Caribbean islands. Bustling colonial St John's is a mixture of modern and old, a vibrant melting-pot of culture and character, a city in the throes of change.

Who's who in Antigua

Antigua is another of the Caribbean's cricket havens and amongst its prized celebrities are some of the biggest names to grace the game. They come no bigger or taller than the lanky Curtley Ambrose, and there has never been a broader bat or more infectious West Indian cricketer than the great Sir Vivian Richards. Add Andy Roberts and Richie Richardson and you can appreciate the contribution these celebrities have made to the game and to the island's tourism appeal. In more recent times Texas billionaire Sir Alan Stanford has become the island's first citizen in business and sporting terms with its huge commercial interests and his massive sponsorship of 20/20 West Indies cricket.

The buzz in Antigua real estate

Over the last few years there has been a big impetus in the local real estate market as developers took advantage of a new era under a new government and finally embraced the real estate boom that was sweeping the Caribbean region. New visionary and innovative developments came on stream and popular areas like Jolly Harbour were rejuvenated with new enterprise and investors. With so much magnificent beach available there's no threat of overkill on this island and the door of opportunity lies open to investors to enjoy both the lifestyle and the investment return. Luxury units on the beach or close to the beach continue to attract most overseas investment and with its strong tourism industry, rental returns are expected to continue to be strong in the immediate future. Antigua Race Week and test match cricket continue to keep the island in the sporting headlines, but throughout the year thousands of tourists enjoy Antigua's beautiful beaches, clubs and restaurants, quality hotels and villas, sports facilities, marinas and its unrivalled sand, sea and sunshine.
Little wonder many of them are now buying a second home there.
