Barbados - where it’s all happening right now!
Painting the Barbados scene
Often referred to as the 'jewel in the Caribbean crown' the little island of Barbados has a strong British heritage but an even stronger belief in its own destiny. Since independence in 1966 the island has matured as the number one holiday destination in the world with a strong tourism product. In more recent times its business development has attracted international commerce from far and near and the island is certainly making massive strides to improve its infrastructure and social amenities. Modern Barbados is well equipped to prosper in the future with its visionary government and entrepreneurs. Above all, it is a beautiful island with warm friendly people.
Who’s who in Barbados life
Cricket put Barbados on the world map as the island’s cricket pedigree is second to none. Living legends like Sir Everton Weekes, Sir Garfield Sobers, big Joel Garner, Desmond Haynes and Gordon Greenidge feature prominently in local society and many clubs and cricket personalities visit the island throughout the year. Probably the best known Barbadian worldwide at present is the beautiful singing sensation Ryhanna who has burst onto the international music scene in the last two years with a series of number one hits.
Barbados has long been a favourite haunt of the Rich and Famous with legendary singer Sir Cliff Richard a popular resident of many years standing. Many of the top international showbiz, musical and sports celebrities come and go without fuss or hassle, and the latest big names that are reputed to be buying homes are Sir Andrew Lloyd-Webber and the inimitable Simon Cowell.
The buzz in Barbados real estate
It’s all go in Barbados real estate these days as the property boom has been buzzing for almost ten years. The local property product is diverse in both type and price, so best to shop around to get exactly what suits your taste and your pocket. The strong tourism industry continues to boost the rental market and the strength of the euro and pound sterling against the US dollar in the last few years has attracted plenty of European investors to the island.
The glitzy West Coast is bubbling with breachfront condominium developments and the introduction of the Four Season Resort has added another dimension at the top of the property ladder. The South Coast has come alive in recent times and may offer the best value for money in the mid-price range as it is a developing market.
This is an island right at the top of the Caribbean property boom in 2008.
